Reformation   / type design
This typeface is a display letter system inspired by Hugh J. Schonfield's proposal from his 1932 book “The New Hebrew Typography”. Schonfield, who didn’t know any Hebrew, strove to alter and Latinize the Hebrew language.
He proposed an outrageous set of letters and characters that didn’t resonate with the traditions of Hebrew writing, and was quickly dismissed and forgotten.
Reformation is an unpredictable geometric sans-serif. It contains an ensemble of letter types, all stemming from its experimental nature — some conform to the norm, while others are rude and stand out. It serves as an experimental type lab, and challenges the dichotomy between right and wrong, beauty and ugliness, the normal and the grotesque.
